Flour Confections
We feel compelled to let the world know when we find something great, and today we are going to shout it from our virtual rooftop: “WE LOVE FLOUR CONFECTIONS’ COOKIES!!!”. Okay, now that we’ve said it let us tell you why.
In July, as we were preparing for our first official dessert buffet, we began our search for a local baker to make us some cookies. After scouring the web, we found a few different sites that listed positive reviews of Lisa Bugeja’s creations. Lisa is the owner & founder of Flour Confections a Pickering based cake supply store and school. We asked for her help, and to our delight she said yes! Little did we know that in having Lisa on board to fulfill our cookie requirement, we had a 4 time consecutive 1st place winner for cookies, at the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show. For those of you not familiar with this show it is the 2nd largest of it’s kind in the world! To call her a pro is an understatement.
The cookies that Lisa made for our buffet were spectacular! We told her that we wanted a blue and white frosted sugar cookie that would mesh with our vintage dessert buffet theme. What she created were little edible pieces of art; just thinking about them we get goosebumps. Lisa went above and beyond for us and supplied our buffet with not 1 – but 3 different cookie designs. Two were variations of sugar cameo cookies (topped with royal icing) and the third was made to look like doilies using a unique sugar product called SugarVeil. The party guests lucky enough to sample our vintage buffet were all pleasantly surprised that when they bit into their sugar cookies they were soft – not hard. To top it all off (literally) the icing that Lisa used wasn’t overly sweet in taste – just in design!
Like Sweet Tooth Productions – Lisa excels at creating edible works of art. Interested in seeing more of what she can do? Fellow Canucks can check her out in action on Slice Network’s Cake Walk series. On October 26th, 2011 she is appearing in the “Fright Night” episode as an assistant. For any of our American followers, you can see Lisa November 6th, 2011 on the Food Network Challenge’s “Lego Cakes” episode.
Flour Confections the store front has a very welcoming sweet feel, and the classes that are held here are done in a friendly and relaxing environment. Interested in ordering some custom cookies, taking a “sweet” cake decorating and design class, or just need some baking supplies? If you answered yes to any of the above, be sure to check out www.flourconfections.ca or pop by the store located at 1084 Brock Road, Unit 5 (in Pickering).
